Temperance exhibits a constant metabolic hunger and can detect trace nutrients through water at long distances. Despite this, it rarely feeds, even when prey is plentiful. As it matures, additional mouths sprout from its body and are voluntarily sealed with self-generated bands of ice. The compression from these ice bands forces its metabolism to convert internal reserves into dense defensive energy, thickening its hide and reinforcing its core. If Temperance breaks the seals and feasts, the pressure dissipates and its defensive output drops significantly. Do not overfeed it. Provide small portions only after heavy exertion. If the ice bands melt too soon, place Temperance in a cold, quiet space so it can reform them and restore its strength.
